1979 yamaha xs 650, starter stopped working after I changed the handlebars?? Clutch safety switch?

I changed the handle bars and the elec. starter stopped working. Thought it might be the safety switch on the clutch, or does it have one. All connections in the headlight are good with rthe starter button. Horn works. Help!!
