How to cap off an electrical outlet?

Ok long story short the house is about 60 y/o, original elec wiring (Fuse Box) The other night an outlet threw sparks in my living room and my GF has been scared since, I unscrewed the fuse and found out it goes to our bedroom too. Now for the question, Can i just cap off the line in the living room or do i need to have the circuit closed to run power back to my room? There was no load on the living room outlet BTW.
